New device treats organs with one touch August 08, 2017 | 09:40 / Interesting information

American researchers have introduced a new technology Tissue Nanotransfection (TNT), which allows generating any type of cells in the patient's body from nerve fibres and blood vessels to whole organs. A description of the development can be found in the journal Nature Nanotechnology.

Scientists from the University of Ohio conducted experiments in mice and pigs with injured limbs. During the work, they were able to reprogram the skin cells in such a way that they began to function as vascular cells. The whole experiment lasted two weeks, by the time of its termination the blood vessels in the limbs of the animals functioned properly.

Chandan Sen, one of the authors of the study, said that the skin can be a source of elements for all tissues and organs and the process of cell conversion takes only one second. TNT is a two-component technology. The biological "converter" makes from the skin cells any other cell, which is then delivered to the body with the help of a nanochip. In 98% of cases the device successfully coped with the transformation of cells.

The technology does not require any laboratory procedures, and the procedure itself is non-invasive. New cells are introduced due to a weak electrical charge, which is practically not felt by the patient. In 2018, scientists plan to test the technology on people.
