The Engadget website reports that the use of clever algorithm has made it possible to significantly reduce the number of serious crimes committed in various parts of the city. Thus, in the seventh district of Chicago, the number of shootings compared to last year decreased by 40 percent, while the number of murders was reduced by 33 percent. Programs that work in the other three regions are worse, but there has also been a positive shift - shootings and murders have been reduced by an average of 25 percent, which is also encouraging.

The crime prediction algorithms used by the Chicago police take into account a variety of factors, analyzing social, economic data and even weather information. In addition, data collected from surveillance cameras is used. Other parameters are taken into account, but the AI ​​also uses other means available to it, regularly checking with the list of criminals and suspects. In addition, the system includes the detection of shots.

The launch of the system at the beginning of the year was spent about $ 1 million, and it seems that the investments themselves fully justify.
