American researchers at Harvard University have created a special high-tech fabric with a variety of flexible sensors that allow any type of clothing to be turned into a fitness tracker, writes the portal Advanced Materials Technologies.

Sensors collect information about the reduction of all muscles, and the sensor itself is a silicon layer (a poorly conductive material), sewn between layers of silver material (conductive tissue). In this way, scientists can record any changes in electrical conductivity when the tissue is compressed and stretched during exercise, dni24.com reports.

As part of the experiment, scientists sewed a glove from the fabric, which recorded any small changes in the movement of the volunteer, including determining how far the finger was bent. In the future, from "smart" fabric will produce sports suits or devices for monitoring the condition of patients in hospitals.
