On the streets of Chinese cities there will be "trains" moving along virtual rails June 16, 2017 | 05:00 / Interesting information

The budgetary funds of small towns do not allow their administration to build high-speed tram lines in these cities, even though such lines can be the solution to most of the transport problems. The Chinese company CRRC Zhuzhou Institute Co Ltd, whose specialists developed and manufactured the first prototype of what can be called a city train that does not need rails, presented its vision on solving this problem. This type of electric transport is able to move along ordinary asphalt roads, only, unlike ordinary buses, it has a lesser degree of freedom. Composition, "shod" in ordinary wheels with rubber tires, is able to move only on a kind of virtual rails, following strictly the specified path, defined by special sensors.

There is still no information on automatic control systems, collision avoidance systems and other than any autonomous vehicle. Plus, the ART train has a cab for the driver, so now it's even hard to make assumptions about the level of autonomy that this "train" will have.

According to the plans of the company CRRC, the first prototype of the train ART next year will be on the experimental 6.5-kilometer route, which will pass through the center of Zhuzhou city. And this first stage of experimental exploitation will reveal all the pros and cons of this not very usual approach to the problem of urban public transport.
