A free battle on gasoline , capable to fly for a five days June 09, 2017 | 02:00 / Interesting information

The main problem for most unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is that their battery life is relatively short. Many engineers and scientists are trying to solve this problem in their own way. For example, researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology presented their own drone, working on gasoline. Surprisingly in this story is that a drones can fly without refueling for five days.

The engine mounted on the drone has a power of 5 horsepower, and the weight of the entire aircraft is 68 kilograms. The wingspan is 7.3 meters.Initially, it was planned to supply the drones with solar photocells, but they quickly abandoned the idea, deciding to resort to an old good internal combustion engine.

Drones on solar energy are effective in the summer, however at night and in cloudy weather they are of little use. In winter, as well as at a great distance from the equator, such a drone will simply lack the sunlight for normal functioning. The first prototype of a drone on gasoline was assembled back in May. The first tests were successful, and now the team of researchers will have to run their drones for a long distance, and also reduce its weight from 68 to 25 kilograms.
