Annual general assembly devoted to the scientific and scientific - organizational activity of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences for 2013 was held at the main building of the academy, April 18, 2014.

The head of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, acad. Ramiz Mehdiyev, and corresponding members of ANAS, directors of the institutes and other organizations, parliamentarians and media representatives attended the assembly. 

First, the participants paid tribute to the national leader Heydar Aliyev in the Honorary Alley, laid a wreath at the tomb. 

Later, the guests got acquainted with the books, magazines and other publications reflecting the activity of research institutes and organizations of ANAS for 2013. 

The President of ANAS, acad. Akif Alizadeh opened annual general assembly. Azerbaijan had each opportunity to become the region’s science center, he stressed. Important measures had been taken for the informatization of scientific activities of the organization in accordance with the modern requirements, he noted. One of the most advanced libraries in the region i.e. Information Resource Center was completely ready for exploitation and new institutions would be created in the areas of modern science, the academician mentioned. According to the development strategy of the country, a number of reforms had been implemented, including Ganja Department had been established by the order of President Ilham Aliyev in order to increase scientific and technical potential of the regions, Ar.Alizadeh reminded. Moreover, the Board of Directors, the Board of Coordination and Examination of Innovative Projects, including the Board of Young Scientists and Specialists of research institutions of ANAS had been established, he added. 

Presenting the “President's Award for Youth” to the distinguished young researchers in various fields, enabling them to participate in the programs of research institutions of Europe to get academic degree of PhD and DR of science is the part of policy of the academy for young researchers and human resources, he said. At present, the Development Concept of ANAS till 2020 had been developed, and prior directions of researches had been redefined, the speaker said. Important events as the III Baku International Humanitarian Forum are of great significance for the international scientific cooperation of Azerbaijan.
