At a meeting of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, which took place on 18 January, listened a report on the activities of scientific institutions and organizations of ANAS, related to the encyclopedia Wikipedia, prepared by the Institute of Information Technology.

Presenting the report, Academic Secretary of ANAS, Director of the Institute of Information Technology, Academician Rasim Alguliyev noted that, the representation of Azerbaijan in the virtual encyclopedia Wikipedia summit is of great significance. Academician noted that, ANAS Presidium always focuses its attention related to the encyclopedia Wikipedia activity of scientific institutions and organizations of the Academy, and provides them with the necessary support: "January 15, 2014 Presidium adopted a resolution to extend the work of scientists in order to reflect and preserve in Wikipedia information about the realities and national and moral values of Azerbaijan; for these tasks were entrusted to create wiki groups in all scientific institutions and organizations of the Academy and Wicki-Center at Information Technology Institute. A need for further expansion has been featured at the Presidium of ANAS decision dated 4 February 2016 relating to the activities of the encyclopedia".

Academician noted that, training for members of the center-wiki were held on the topic "Theoretical and practical bases of the encyclopedia Wikipedia" the courses attended by 123 scientists and experts. Also, to solve the problems existing in the Azerbaijani segment of Wikipedia, and further development was studied the experience of countries that are active in this field and have achieved in a short time some results, carried out the relevant tests. In addition, Wikipedia segments in Azerbaijani, English, Russian and Turkish languages are constantly monitored and the analysis of the contents that are contrary to the interests of our people.

Academician Rasim Alguliyev said that, on the basis of appeals of various organizations and individuals they have been trained to work on Wikipedia, they were given ways to solve the problems that they faced, given the necessary advice. Assistance was provided in the creation of pages of prominent personalities of Azerbaijan, placing their books. Also, by using wiki technology needed to ensure the availability of content for informing the world community of true information about Azerbaijan was carried out by the wiki environment. In order to promote a virtual encyclopedia Wikipedia in the Azerbaijani society were carried out advocacy and campaign activities at various conferences, forums, television and radio channels, print and electronic media resources. Along with all the above, an analysis of (vikimetriya) registration data collected by the resource Wikipedia, analyzes revealed the hidden social network. The results of research are reflected in 20 articles published in reputable scientific journals, have been prepared and are presented in various international conferences and national scale 12 theses. Speaking about the done work, Academician Rasim Alguliyev informed about the problems that exist in the formation of the Azerbaijani segment of the encyclopedia Wikipedia. He noted that in the hosted wiki environment data about Azerbaijan incomplete, in some cases, they do not reflect reality, are biased, "is also very little objective information about Azerbaijan in English, Russian and other languages commonly spoken. Using this emptiness, certain hostile forces spreading disinformation against our country, are with us the information war. The number of active users, placing in Wikipedia related to Azerbaijan the materials enough, their activities are fragmented and sometimes the activity and position of some administrators and active users does not reflect the objective reality and our national interests".

Academician also noted that, another major problem is the lack of activity of the intelligentsia, professionals, employees of scientific, educational and cultural institutions in the fight against misinformation, false representation in Wikipedia information about Azerbaijan, its lack of participation in the wiki projects, as well as the fact that they They do not possess the necessary knowledge and skills to accommodate the required information in a given space. He also said that, in the case of accommodation in Wikipedia information related to Azerbaijan in other languages underutilized capacity of our compatriots living in foreign countries and Diasporas.

Academician Rasim Aliguliyev stressed that, to address these problems, scientists and experts need to be active in the vast Wikipedia, in secondary and higher education should be taught the relevant knowledge, it is necessary to coordinate the activities of administrators and active members employed in the Azerbaijani sector of the Wikipedia, to enrich the content to translate them on the leading languages of the world and place in the encyclopedia: "in general, for large-scale implementation of the wiki projects, presentation of Azerbaijan in Wikipedia at the proper level, and to protect our national interests must be cooperation of business, civil society, as well as to provide administrative, technical and financial support".

Further, the report was discussed and approved. Also the resolution on implementation of the relevant activities for an expansion of activities of scientific institutions and ANAS organizations, connected with the encyclopedia Wikipedia, including to acceleration of works on ensuring availability of content, expansion of the corresponding propaganda and propaganda activities in media, to strengthening of material logistics of activities of viki-groups was accepted. In addition, scientific research and the trainings provided by Wicky center shall be continued, are organized the corresponding trainings for members of viki-groups which function in the Nakhchivan and Ganja Departments, Shaki and Lankaran regional scientific centers of Academy.
