Presentation of the book named ''Theoretical and practical basis of Wikipedia virtual encyclopedia" was held  at the joint seminar of No.13 and 17 department of the Institute of Information Technology.

Wikipedia encyclopedia plays an important role to present comprehensive and objective information about  Azerbaijan's history, culture, art and so on,  academician-secretary of ANAS, director of the Institute of Information Technology Rasim Alguliyev said.

Development of national content, expansion of information about Azerbaijan Republic in the global information space, promotion and dissemination of truth about Azerbaijan in virtual space were highlightened in the "State Program on implementation of the National Strategy for Information Society Development".

For this reason, by the decision of the Presidium of ANAS Wiki-Center was established for holding "Theoretical and practical basis of the Wikipedia encyclopedia" courses at the Institute of Information Technology, he stressed.

Conduction of Wikimetrics researches, training of theoretical and practical lessons on Wikipedia for scientists and experts in various fields, popularization of online encyclopedia among citizens and conduction propaganda and agitation activities are the main activity aspects of the Wiki Center.

Information about creation history of Wikipedia encyclopedia, its projects, importance, challenges and role in the society are reflected in the book, rules and mechanisms applied for development of encyclopedic web pages are explained, sector chief Irada Alakbarova informed.

Downloading of multimedia files and changes to the Wikipedia, the process of creating encyclopedic articles, templates, resources and proper use of multimedia files, including copyright information is provided in the book, she noted.

According to her, the explanation of key terms of existing analtic systems and used in the wiki society  for analyzing the processes occurring in Wiki environment, conducting different monitorings were introduced  thoroughly in the book.

In the end, there was an exchange of views on the subject, many questions were answered.
